Membership Officer

We have an exciting opportunity to join the membership team of our growing union. The ETU represents electrical workers across NSW and ACT. The membership team works directly with members, organisers and the leadership to ensure members have reliable access to our services and benefits and are proud to be ETU members.

 

The Electrical Trades Union NSW/ACT is a strong and active Union representing Electrical workers in a diverse range of workplaces across the Electrical and energy industries through NSW and the ACT.

 

Membership Officers work as part of the membership and administrative team.

 

Purpose of role

Membership Officers assist the ETU to effectively represent its members by:

· Supporting members, including by ensuring accurate records, timely service, and smooth administration; and

· Contributing to the Union’s organising work by maintaining reliable membership data and assisting with member engagement.

 

Location

Membership Officers work at the ETU office in CBD Sydney.      

 

Reporting line

Membership Officers report to the Membership Coordinator.

 

Main responsibilities

Membership Officers perform administrative tasks as directed by the Membership Coordinator, Head of Legal & Operations and Secretary.

Indicative day-to-day duties include (without limitation):

 

Data Integrity

· Maintaining accurate and uptodate member records, including by using our Client Relationship Management (CRM) system, iMIS, and Excel;

· Ensuring secure handling of personal and financial information;

· Following internal procedures for data quality, audits, recordkeeping and document destruction.

 

Internal stakeholder support

·         Liaising with organisers regarding member status, arrears, and workplace lists;

·         Working with the finance team on reconciliations, refunds, and payment issues;

·         Supporting the Secretary and senior leadership with accurate reporting.

 

Communications and member engagement

· Making phone calls to members to collect membership fees;

· Providing daily member service contact, including by responding to queries by email, over the phone and in person;

· Assisting with renewal campaigns, reminder communications, and onboarding emails;

· Preparing standard responses or templates for common member enquiries;

· Processing applications for memberships exemptions and resignations

Financial activities

· Processing of payments and performing member account reconciliations;

· Processing of direct debits, including addressing default payments.

 

Skills and attributes necessary for the role

Membership Officers are required to display the following skills and attributes:

·         Strong attention to detail and accuracy;

·         Highlevel customer service skills;

·         Ability to manage competing priorities in a fastpaced environment;

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills;

·         Ability to work collaboratively in a small team;

·         Experience with CRM systems (particularly iMIS);

·         Understanding of, and commitment to, the interests of the union movement.

 

The role comes with attractive salary and benefits, including (without limitation):

  1. A starting salary of $72,781.80, to increase following successful completion of the qualification period;
  2. 5 weeks annual leave with 20% leave loading;
  3. 12 paid rostered days off per year;
